Huaqiao Town is located in the eastern part of Wanji District, Wuhu City. It borders Xuancheng City to the east across the Qiugong River and faces Dangtu County to the north across the Shuiyang River. Covering an area of 102.5 square kilometers, the town consists of both hilly and flatland areas. It administers 10 villages and 2 communities, with a total population of 40,900.The Town Party Committee oversees 63 grassroots Party organizations (5 Party committees, 9 general Party branches, and 49 Party branches). It has been honored with titles including National Ecological Township, Provincial “Five Excellences” Model Township Party Committee, Provincial Pilot Demonstration Town for Rural Governance, Provincial Civilized Town and Village, Provincial Advanced Unit for Internal Audit, Municipal Demonstration Town for “Four Excellences” Rural Roads, and Municipal Demonstration Town for Rural Living Environment Improvement.In 2023, fiscal revenue reached 378 million yuan, a 4% year-on-year increase, marking a new milestone in the town’s economic and social development.


The town boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. Currently, there are as many as 28 identified cultural sites within its borders. Provincial-level cultural heritage sites include the Spring and Autumn Period Jiuzi City (commonly known as “Chu Wangcheng”), hailed as the “source of nostalgia” for Wuhu and the entire Jiangnan region; the Dongmendu Official Kiln from the Northern Song Dynasty, one of the origins of China’s earliest “value-added tax receipts”; and the Minling Temple (Ninety Halls), known as the “Great Taoist Temple of Jiangnan.”The town also features the Southern Tang Dynasty Jiunv Dun earthen mound tombs, which bear witness to the cultural heritage and funerary practices of the Wu and Yue kingdoms; the thousand-year-old Miaoyin Temple; and the Ming Dynasty stone arch bridge “Huqiao Du.” Huqiao Town boasts one provincial-level intangible cultural heritage site (the Jiushidian Temple Fair), two municipal-level sites (Ge Village Mountain Board Dragon Lanterns and Huqiao Du Tea-Picking Lanterns), and eight county-level sites.

Transportation within the town is convenient. The Lishui-Wuhu Expressway has an entrance and exit at Henggang in Huqiao Town, and the Wusheng Canal runs through the northern part of the town. The Wudang Bridge and the Wusheng Canal Wharf are currently in the planning stages. Provincial highways Yanghuang Road and Jiusan Road crisscross the town. It is 35 kilometers from Wuhu City, 15 kilometers from the district government headquarters, and less than an hour’s drive from Nanjing Airport.

The town boasts a beautiful natural environment. Located in the water town region of southern Jiangnan, Huqiao Town is crisscrossed by rivers and lakes, with a well-developed water system. The Shuiyang River, Qiugong River, and Zhaojia River wind through the area like three colorful ribbons, while Huimin Lake, Shicha Lake, and Xijia Lake are scattered throughout like pearls. With a forest coverage rate of 26%, the town has been awarded the title of National Ecological Town.Three "Beautiful Rural Villages" projects—Zhuqiao, Jiushidian, and Fuxing—have been completed. Key initiatives to improve the living environment, such as the Digital Rural Village in Huqiao Village, Huqiaodu, and the Beautiful Rural Village project in Zhuqiao Central Village, have been successively implemented. The town has been awarded the title of "Municipal Model Town for Rural Living Environment Improvement" for two consecutive years;Nine villages (residential communities) across the town have collectively received 17 municipal-level or higher honors, including Provincial Beautiful Rural Village Demonstration Village, Municipal Rural Revitalization Demonstration Village, Municipal Rural Living Environment Improvement Demonstration Village, and Rural Reform Demonstration Village.

The town boasts distinctive industrial characteristics. Huaqiao is a land of abundance, known as a “land of fish and rice.” The town has a total contracted farmland area of 43,500 mu, a non-contracted farmland area (suitable for afforestation, including barren mountains and wasteland) of 32,000 mu, and a water surface area of 23,000 mu, of which 16,000 mu is suitable for aquaculture. Within the town, there are two irrigation basins—Xinlianwei and Lianjianwei—each covering over 10,000 mu.The leading agricultural industries focus primarily on grain and oilseed cultivation, aquaculture, and fruit and vegetable farming. In recent years, Huaqiao Town has leveraged its agricultural strengths and unique characteristics to develop distinctive agricultural product brands, including Fuxing Oil Peaches, Minling Xian Peaches, Shicha Lake Crabs, Jinfoyuan Grass Fragrance, Jiushidian Duck Rice, and Xianding Wey Specialty Aquatic Products. The town is home to 28 leading industrial enterprises at various levels, 75 farmers’ professional cooperatives, and 251 family farms.The town’s leading industrial sector is centered on wooden pallet processing. The Anhui Xinwu Green Packaging Industrial Park, located within the town, was completed in 2011. By 2020, its output value reached 3.23 billion yuan, employing over 2,000 people. A total of 37 enterprises have settled in the park, including 22 pallet-related companies, with six of them designated as provincial-level leading enterprises in the forestry industry.Leveraging the industrial park, the district is actively developing the Wuhu Smart Pallet Town, which is renowned as the “Number One Pallet Town in China.” In 2020, the Smart Pallet Town was selected for the provincial list of pilot characteristic towns.The cultural and tourism industry is booming. The Jiushidian Temple Fair has been recognized as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage; cultural tourism events such as the Fuxing Nectarine Harvest Season and the Rural Cuisine Festival attract over 200,000 visitors annually from surrounding areas, driving more than 5 million yuan in consumption; agritourism venues like Tianyuan Shiguang and Crocodile Lake Villa are gradually expanding; the Jiushidian Farming Museum, Fuxing Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and Chu Wangcheng Museum have been completed and are now in use;Construction and development have commenced for Jiuzi Bay, the Chu City Campground, the Jiushidian Cultural and Museum Village, the Dongcao Lake Wetland Park, and the Jiushidian 3A-level scenic area; projects such as Jiuzi Bay, the Aviation Flight Camp, the Anhui Provincial Academy of Calligraphy and Painting Creation Center’s Shuimu Garden, and the Chu City Campground have been successively implemented, gradually forming a rural tourism brand characterized by “hills, water, pastoral landscapes, and ancient charm” across the town.

Currently, Huaqiao Town is thoroughly implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, adhering to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as its guiding principle, and taking the rural revitalization strategy as its main focus. Efforts center on the “One Village, One Town” initiative (Huaqiao Village as a leisure tourism demonstration village and Jiushidian as a cultural and museum arts town) and the “One Corridor, One Industry” strategy (the Huaqiao Ancient Jiuzi Cultural Tourism Corridor and the campground industry:Jiuzi Bay Study-Travel Base, Chu Wangcheng RV Campground, Aviation Flight Campground, Jiushidian Cultural and Museum Study-Travel Campground, Tianyuan Shiguang Study-Travel Base, and Shicha Lake Sports Campground).We will persist in emancipating our minds and focusing our efforts on breakthroughs, promoting rural revitalization through industrial development, improving the appearance of towns and villages through project construction, and advancing grassroots development through Party-building leadership. We will accelerate the construction of “Huqiao with Ancient Charm, New Town with Green Waters,” and strive to build China’s leading town for smart pallets, a cultural and museum study destination in the Yangtze River Delta, and a provincial model town for implementing the rural revitalization strategy.
