The National Supercomputing Center in Jinan (hereinafter referred to as “Jinan Supercomputing Center”), established in 2011 with approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology, is a comprehensive research center dedicated to intelligent computing and information processing technologies, as well as computational services. It is also the birthplace of “Sunway BlueLight,” China’s first exascale supercomputer developed entirely with domestically produced processors, and is headquartered in the Jinan Supercomputing Science and Technology Park.
Jinan Supercomputing built China’s first exascale supercomputer constructed entirely with domestically developed CPUs (2011), completed an exascale computing prototype in 2018, and is currently constructing major infrastructure projects from 2019 to 2022, including a petascale supercomputing platform, an artificial intelligence platform, an industrial internet platform, and a big data platform;It has established the world’s first supercomputing technology park, with a total investment of 10.8 billion yuan and a total floor area of 690,000 square meters, of which the first phase covering 220,000 square meters has been completed; it is currently constructing over 1,600 units of talent housing and apartments to meet the housing needs of various types of talent.As of the end of 2019, Jinan Supercomputing Center had a total of over 180 employees. Among them, 142 were research personnel and 25 were research support staff. There were 26 senior professional and technical personnel and 58 associate senior professional and technical personnel, with 11 holding national or provincial-level talent titles.Jinan Supercomputing Center implements the provincial Party committee and provincial government’s requirements of “one positioning and four demonstrations,” operates under an integrated mechanism for research institutes and centers, offers a master’s degree program in computer science, and established Shandong Province’s first School of Cyberspace Security. As of 2019, the center had over 180 graduate students, more than 2,300 undergraduates, and six postdoctoral researchers.
