Chuxiong High-Tech Zone was approved by the Provincial People’s Government in 1992 as one of Yunnan Province’s first economic and technological development zones. It was upgraded to a national-level high-tech zone in 2018, becoming the third such zone in the country and the first in Yunnan Province to be established in an ethnic minority autonomous region.
The zone focuses on developing two key industries—biopharmaceuticals and new materials—while supporting auxiliary industries such as silicon photovoltaics, non-ferrous metal smelting, green food processing, and advanced equipment manufacturing.
