The Tanggu Marine High-Tech Development Zone was established in June 1992. In January 1995, it was incorporated into the Tianjin New Technology Industrial Park—with approval granted by the State Science and Technology Commission on behalf of the State Council—and elevated to national-level status. It serves as a key component of the “One Zone, Four Parks” framework within the Tianjin Binhai High-Tech Zone and is the nation’s only national-level high-tech development zone focused primarily on the marine industry. It also functions as the “Science and Technology for the Sea” demonstration base for Tianjin’s national marine economy pilot program and as a demonstration base for modern services in Tianjin.
