The Laixi Economic Development Zone was established on June 18, 1992. It is situated at the center of five major open cities—Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Weifang, and Rizhao. It is 60 kilometers south of Qingdao International Airport and 90 kilometers south of Qingdao Port; 110 kilometers east of Yantai Port; and connected to the interior via the Laiwei Expressway, Tongsan Expressway, and Qingyin Expressway to the west and north.The Lanyan Railway, National Highway 204, and Provincial Highway 804 traverse the area, and the Laiwei Expressway has an exit within the zone. The development zone is situated east of Laixi’s urban area and currently administers 40 administrative villages and 5 urban neighborhood committees, with a total population of 56,000.
