Established in 1992, the Feicheng High-Tech Zone was designated as a provincial-level high-tech industrial development zone in 1995 following approval by the provincial government. In May 2003, the zone’s administrative center was relocated westward, and it merged with Wangguadian Town to form a unified administrative entity.In December 2005, the High-Tech Zone became one of the first to pass the review and acceptance inspection conducted by the National Development and Reform Commission. In July 2010, Wangguadian Town was dissolved and reorganized into a subdistrict office. In March 2011, with a view to promoting the higher-level development of the High-Tech Zone, the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government adjusted the "zone-subdistrict integration" model to a "designated area with independent status."
