The Jining Economic and Technological Development Zone is located in the western part of Jining’s urban area, on the west bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The zone covers a planned area of 150 square kilometers and has a population of 144,000, with its core area comprising the two townships of Tunli and Maji.

The establishment of the Jining Economic and Technological Development Zone represents a major decision made by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government to thoroughly implement the Scientific Outlook on Development and build a hub for scientific development in Western Shandong; it is a key strategy for the “One Core, Two Wings” development of Jining; and it addresses the need to accelerate economic development in the underdeveloped counties of western Jining. The Development Zone bears both responsibility and hope, shouldering the heavy task of driving economic development in western Jining.

To resolutely and successfully fulfill the honorable mission entrusted by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, the Development Zone is thoroughly implementing four major strategies: “Open-driven Development, Integration with the Central Urban Area, Innovation-led Development, and Eco-oriented Development.” It has boldly put forward the slogan of building a “National-level Economic and Technological Development Zone” and set development goals to double key economic indicators within three years and quadruple them within five years.By 2017, key economic indicators such as regional GDP and local fiscal revenue are to double compared to 2013, with an average annual growth rate exceeding 26%. By 2019, these key economic indicators are to double again on top of the three-year doubling target, aiming for a regional GDP of 22 billion yuan and local fiscal revenue of 900 million yuan. Within five years, the Development Zone will meet the standards for a national-level development zone and join the ranks of such zones.
