The development zone began preparations in 1999 and was approved as an autonomous regional-level development zone by the People’s Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on July 27, 2001. In October 2002, six ministries and commissions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, designated the development zone as a National Demonstration Base for the Transformation and Industrialization of New Materials. The development zone has a total planned area of 30 square kilometers, with the central area covering 24 square kilometers and the Tuke project area covering 6 square kilometers.
