Geographical Location: The Changbai Economic Development Zone is located in southern Jilin Province, on the southern foothills of Mount Changbai, within the central development belt of the Yalu and Tumen Rivers. The zone is situated across the river from Hyesan City in North Korea’s Ryanggang Province, within the country’s only Korean Autonomous County. As the largest provincial-level development zone along the China-North Korea border that borders a major North Korean city, it enjoys a highly advantageous geographical location.The development area is bounded by the Jiudi Daogou River to the east, the confluence of the two rivers to the west, the Yalu River to the south, and Tashan Mountain and the Old Changlin Highway to the north. The planned area covers 300 hectares, with an initial development zone of 120 hectares.The Orchard Tourism Resort (87.5 hectares), the Litian Dong Smelting Area (60 hectares), and the Badaogou Diatomite Industrial Zone (1,520 hectares) have also been successively incorporated into the development zone, bringing the total controlled area to 2,300 hectares.
