Established in 1992 and located in the western part of Qidong City, the Qidong Economic Development Zone is one of the first provincial-level development zones in Jiangsu Province and a key development zone along the Yangtze River and the coast. It is 50 kilometers away from Shanghai’s Pudong District as the crow flies—a mere 45-minute drive—making it the provincial-level development zone in Jiangsu Province closest to both Shanghai’s Pudong District and the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The zone has a total planned area of 50 square kilometers, with a built-up area of 28 square kilometers.
With the goal of “striving to become a national-level development zone,” the Qidong Economic Development Zone prioritizes innovative development and accelerates its transformation and upgrading. It is dedicated to advancing the construction of an innovative economic park, fostering the clustering of advanced manufacturing sectors such as new energy, electronic information, offshore engineering equipment, and biopharmaceuticals. Modern service industries, including headquarters economy, service outsourcing, and technology incubation, have begun to take shape. The zone’s economy and society are demonstrating a positive trend of significant and rapid development.
