Development Zone Introduction
Pukou serves as the first gateway to the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River, the western bridgehead for the Yangtze River Delta region’s expansion into the inland hinterland, and the central area north of the river in Nanjing’s riverside development and coordinated development across both banks. The Pukou Economic Development Zone is situated in the heart of the district, approximately 5 kilometers upstream from the Nanjing Yangtze River Third Bridge and about 8 kilometers downstream from the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. The Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel runs through the zone, giving it a highly advantageous location. It is 16 kilometers from Nanjing, 280 kilometers from Shanghai, and 250 kilometers from Hangzhou.
The Pukou Economic Development Zone is situated in the central part of Pukou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, within the core area of the Jiangbei New Area—a key development project of Nanjing City. It occupies a gateway position for the Yangtze River Delta and the Nanjing Metropolitan Area to extend their influence into central and western regions. Bordered by the Yangtze River to the south and backed by Laoshan Mountain to the north, the zone features a riverside layout and is closely connected to Nanjing’s main urban area via multiple cross-river passages. The park was established in June 1992 and was approved by the provincial government as a provincial-level economic development zone in December 1993.
