Jiangyin National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was formerly known as the Jiangyin Economic Development Zone, established in 1992. In 2002, the provincial Party committee and provincial government granted it the economic approval authority and administrative status of a national-level economic development zone. On June 15, 2011, the State Council formally approved its upgrade to a National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.In October 2014, the State Council approved the joint establishment of the Southern Jiangsu National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone by eight National High-Tech Industrial Development Zones, including the Jiangyin National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and the Suzhou Industrial Park.
The Jiangyin National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is home to a large number of leading enterprises with comprehensive strengths in the fields of new materials, precision machinery,and electronic information. It is home to the world’s largest steel cord manufacturer, the world’s largest R&D and production base for ultra-hard composite wear-resistant cutting wires used in photovoltaic solar silicon wafer production, the world’s largest single-site special steel producer, the world’s largest production base for laptop motherboard circuit boards, the world’s largest malt processing base, China’s largest special steel production base, China’s largest manufacturer of steel wire ropes and bridge cables, and China’s largest semiconductor packaging and testing enterprise.
