The Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone is an area jointly planned, constructed, managed, and shared by Guangdong Province and the Macao Special Administrative Region. It encompasses the customs supervision zone between the “first line” and “second line” on Hengqin Island, with a total area of approximately 106 square kilometers.
The Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone has the following characteristics and advantages:
Prime Location: Hengqin Island is situated in the southern part of Zhuhai City, separated from Macao by a strait and a bridge, offering inherent advantages for Guangdong-Macao cooperation.
Policy Support: The Cooperation Zone benefits from policy support from both the central and local governments, aimed at promoting the diversified development of Macao’s economy and advancing Guangdong-Macao cooperation.
Industrial Development: The Cooperation Zone focuses on developing four emerging industries: science and technology R&D and high-end manufacturing; Macao-branded industries such as traditional Chinese medicine; cultural tourism, convention, and exhibition services; and modern finance.
Key Parks: The zone features key parks such as the Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park, the Hengqin-Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, and the Guangdong-Macao Integrated Circuit Design Industrial Park.
Tourism Resources: As the third internationally recognized tourism island approved in China, the cooperation zone boasts tourist attractions such as the Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort.
As of the end of 2023, the development framework of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone is positioned to establish a “cross-axis belt and three major zones,” transitioning from “Hengqin and Macao sharing the same origins” to “Hengqin and Macao integration.” At the same time, by creating “one ring,” nurturing “two cores,” and constructing “multiple corridors,” the zone aims to build a regional ecological security framework.
